Net@ for the community

Kfar Sava

On Thursday, April 3rd, 2008, the 9th grade trainees went on a volunteer mission for the invalids' rights, as part of the accessibility campaign which took place in town. Within Neta's volunteer activities, the first year trainees join a group volunteer project. The event summarized the subject of accessibility in Kfar-Sava. The trainees helped increase awareness of the disabled situation in the city, handed out fliers and balloons, and explained the unique problems of the disabled to passers-by. About a week later, all the trainees were invited to a volunteer forum, attended by the mayor, to thank them for their efforts.

Dimona

"Honor the face of the old man"

On Sunday, March 31st, 2008, the third year trainees of the Neta Project in the town of Dimona held a volunteer day at the old people's home Shirley, located in the entrance to Dimona. The 11th grade pupils collected songs of all types and from all years, most of which are known to every Israeli, and prepared a songbook which they called "ShiroNeta". They also collected musical scores for the songs so that it would be possible to play them. After elaborate planning, they arrived on the designated date at the old people's home and held a sing-along session for a group of about 30 elderly people, accompanied by musical instruments and singing by the talented trainees. After the pleasant singing session, they continued with Bingo games, which they prepared themselves. It should be noted that all those involved enjoyed themselves very much. The people at the home were pleased and the young trainees also enjoyed themselves, not just the singing and playing but also the giving of something back to the community.

Beit She'an

The trainees of Beit She'an volunteered at the municipal music house in Beit She'an. A phone call to the call center elicited the information that there was no Internet at the music home and the cost of installation is very high. The trainees, who understood the importance of Internet connection, arrived and installed a wireless router and connected 8 computers to the network. The trainees report that those in charge of the music house thanked them deeply, and they enjoyed their contribution to the community.

Purim festival in Carmiel

On March 18th, 2008, the 9th and 10th grade students arranged a Purim festival for the Ethiopian community in Carmiel. Throughout March the trainees, together with their instructors, worked on arranging the event, and following intensive teamwork they held the event. It included technological activities such as network games, dismantling and assembly of computer parts, an explanation station on the various elements, and video games.

Graduates volunteer in Ramle

The Net@ Program in Ramle is one of the successful and thriving programs in Neta. In the past year, a number of Net@ graduates in Ramle decided to continue and volunteer at their own initiative in the program, and chose to do it within the framework of the program that gave them so much, as they say. Samir Debit was the first. He arrives regularly on Tuesdays at the Net@ center, helps with the various technical maintenance jobs in the lab and at the center, and for 4 hours helps the 11th grade trainees who did not pass the international qualification exam for computer technicians the previous summer. At the same time, Samir works a full time job at the internet supplier company 012. Samir was joined by his classmate, Yosef Sumsum, who claimed to "miss" Neta very much. Yosef decided that he wanted to dedicate his day off, Sunday, to volunteer at Net@ Ramle, and began volunteering on Sundays, helping the 10th grade trainees who are studying for their international qualification exam for computer technicians to get additional, extra-curricular, help. The trainees of Net@ Ramle are participating this year in the project "Business entrepreneurship." As part of the program they opened a snack bar, fast food, and cafeteria at the Neve Menachem Sports Hall (the sports hall for Elitzur Ramle women). The mayor of Ramle, Mr. Yoel Lavie suggested that Net@ trainees undertake the project, and so it was. The snack bar structure was also donated by one of Net@ Ramle trainees. The project needed an adult figure to guide the trainees arriving to work at the site, a figure who would be there every evening and mainly on game evenings. Avi Harari, a Net@ Ramle graduate, who joins the army on August 2008 took this duty upon himself, and he's now the adult who runs this business entrepreneurship on behalf of Net@. Another graduate trainee who helped until he joined the army last week is Tomer Kapuri. Tomer arrived at the center in the afternoon hours and on one morning and helped the staff manager and the instructor with the center's various needs. We are proud of the Net@ Ramle trainees who succeeded in the program, acquired a highly demanded profession in which they work today, and in addition have internalized the values of community leadership, contribution to the community and doing for others. This is the vision of Neta, which is being realized.

Activity with computer for each child in Mitzpe Ramon

The Net@ Program has this year started its operation in Mitzpe Ramon. Although in the first year in Net@ the trainees are not required to volunteer in the community, the trainees in Mitzpe Ramon decided to join the project "A Computer for Each Child". The municipality of Mitzpe Ramon supplied the children in need of a computer with laptop, and Net@'s children volunteered to teach these children basic computer skills.
